The Sky House, Sitla

Uttarakhand

3 bedrooms | up to 6 guests

We won’t go so far (and so cheesy) as to call this space right here a monument of love, but anything else would just be a pitiful attempt at describing this work of art.

A burning fascination for starry nights (the ones in and around Sitla in particular), a keen eye for spatial design and interiors, a heartfelt love for the luscious hills of Kumaon and the dream of a mountain home nurtured over 20 years of partnership…

Welcome to The Sky House.

Built as a personal hideaway by a duo of jet-setting architects, The Sky House was conceptualized as a rejuvenating refuge for Aanchal & Sumeet Nath. An indulgent escape from their hectic schedules of designing spaces around the world.

Never needing an excuse (or a moment’s notice) to run up to the mountains, this couple from New Delhi blended their love for slow living, the great outdoors, and a taste for the finer things into a cocktail so heady and intoxicating, we’re super proud to present it on our menu of hand-picked experiential homestays.

Experiences

Slow down, sink in and treat yourself to a delicious book at the generous lounge or sky deck with a view of snow-capped peaks on the horizon.

Pour yourself a drink by the fireplace, choose between the indoor or al fresco dining spaces (an extremely difficult decision, if you ask us), watch the day melt into sunset and have yourself an evening you won’t easily forget. All of these options, plus the obvious one of indulging in absolute sweet nothingness.

For when you’re in the mood to explore the local area-

Step out for a walk– take a languid and meandering walk along the streets and forest trails of Sitla & Chattola. Birdsong and smiling faces abound, there’s never a dull moment around this sweet hamlet. Guides with a treasure trove of knowledge on the local flora and fauna can be made available, on special request.

Check out the food scene– the farm to table meals at Aikkya, Kiran’s Korean spread at Ek Satoli, Nikita’s neapolitan pizzas at Cafe Awara and the good ol’ Kumaoni fare at Chaandi Maati are some of our favourites. All quite easy to locate with Google maps. We suggest calling ahead to check for availability.

Shop for local products- drop into one of the many tiny stores around Sitla and Satoli that stock products made by local women and cooperatives. Everything from fresh spices, herbs and teas to handlooms, soaps and oils. From our experience, this little excursion can turn into a day-long shopping spree. Kilmora, Aarohi and Baatuli come highly recommended!
