What is pyrography?

Pyrography is the art of using fire and heat on materials like wood and leather. Using a specialized tool, the artist can eternalize a vision or an image, pattern, or design by burning it onto a chosen surface. Each piece of pyrography art requires love, patience, precision, technique, skill and most of all, perspective.

This centuries old, highly gratifying & therapeutic practice is a difficult skill to find today. Come play part in preserving this (almost) forgotten art form!

About the instructor

A chef by profession, Astad gave up his secure and rewarding corporate career to follow his passion for Pyrography and travel. Self-taught in this art form he continually discovers innovative ways to evolve his work. As a versatile artist, he’s passionate about working with natural materials.

Working with accuracy, style and imagination, he pushes boundaries with each piece he produces. At times realistic and recognisable and at other points impressionistic, Astad builds on what moves him in the moment.

When he’s not creating stunning pieces of work, he spends his time creating culinary wonders, upcycling or setting off on solo road trips in search of rural food experiences. Find out more HERE.

About the venue

Situated 15 kms away from Shimla, Nomad Eco-Retreat is an eco-friendly campsite and retreat center, featuring Swiss tents, traditional mud houses, fire-pits, an open-air Baithak, and a cafe. Open to guests year-round, Nomad specialises in hosting groups, workshops, artist retreats, adventure trips, corporate off-sites, and residencies.

Located in an apple orchard, surrounded by sacred Deodar Forests, with majestic views of the snow-capped Himalayas, the common and private spaces at Nomad are designed for community and conversation. Mud-Hut:

Single Occupancy- INR 35,500 // Twin Sharing- INR 26,500

Swiss Tent:

Single Occupancy- INR 31,000 // Twin Sharing- INR 24,000

> 100% deposit to secure a spot
> 75% refund if cancelled on or before 28th Feb ‘25
> 50% refund if cancelled on or before 07th March ‘25
> 25% refund if cancelled on or before 14th March ‘25
> No refund if cancelled on or after 15th March ‘25
